RE: Electric Vehicle solutions for Film and TV Production
The Sustainable Production Alliance (SPA) is a consortium of the world’s leading film, television, and streaming companies dedicated to accelerating the transformation of the entertainment business into a more sustainable industry.
SPA is aggressively working to reduce the environmental impacts of physical film and television production. Our recently released Close Up: Carbon Emissions of Film and TV Productions report shows that emissions from fuel use are most often the primary contributor to a production’s carbon footprint. As a result, to facilitate our transition away from fossil fuels, we are actively seeking more clean, renewable energy solutions to power our vehicles and equipment.
An immediate solution is to use electric vehicles (EVs) in the transportation and rental fleet to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. There are currently available replacements for cars, SUVs, and pick-up trucks, with new vehicles coming out quickly. Even these smaller vehicles can reduce a substantial proportion of a production’s fuel use.
SPA strongly supports the use of EVs as well as efforts by industry stakeholders to install infrastructure to support fleet electrification.
We will continue to track our carbon emissions and engage with our film and TV productions in the quest to reduce our environmental impact. We encourage you to join us in supporting these efforts and are eager to hear about your clean transportation solutions.
Thank you,
Sustainable Production Alliance
